English Education Leave in Düsseldorf
Improve your language skills efficiently and practically: GoAcademy Language School Düsseldorf is a recognized provider offering various intensive English courses several times a year that are perfectly tailored to everyday working life.
What is English Educational Leave?
Educational leave is a specialized entitlement that allows employees to take paid time off for certified professional development. This enables you to acquire new skills and advance your career while continuing to receive your full salary.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, this is governed by the Employee Further Training Act (AWbG NRW). Under this act, full-time employees are eligible for up to five days of recognized training per calendar year. This provides a valuable opportunity to participate in intensive courses, such as professional English training, without any loss of income.
At GoAcademy! Düsseldorf, you can utilize this entitlement for high-level English language training. This allows you to significantly develop your professional communication skills in a recognized environment while preserving your regular vacation time.
Who is the English educational leave for?
Our courses are designed for professionals across all industries who want to enhance their language skills in an intensive, high-focus environment. We offer courses for every level from A1 (Beginner) to C1 (Advanced). Start dates are coordinated by language level, ensuring you can begin your training at exactly the right time.
Further training is particularly beneficial for:
- Daily Business Operations
Communicate confidently with international clients and colleagues—ranging from general conversation to specialized Business English for high-stakes negotiations and presentations. - Personal Development
Refresh your school-level knowledge, overcome language barriers, and strengthen your intercultural competence. - Career Advancement
Increase your professional flexibility and unlock new opportunities within the global job market.
This intensive program allows you to immerse yourself deeply in the language, achieving measurable progress in just one week—all without having to use your regular vacation days.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
English Educational Leave at GoAcademy!
Bildungsurlaub is your legal right to paid leave from work for the purpose of certified further education. During this time, you can intensively develop your language skills while receiving your normal salary, and your regular vacation entitlement remains untouched.
In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), employees are generally entitled to 5 working days per calendar year (based on a 5-day work week). It is often possible to combine entitlements from two years to take a two-week intensive course, for example.
Note on Regional Regulations:
In Germany, the entitlement to educational leave depends on the respective federal state, as this is a state-level matter. The place of work is the deciding factor, not your place of residence. Generally, 14 out of 16 federal states offer 5 days of paid continuing education per year (some carry over into a second year). For example, Berlin offers 10 days within two calendar years. Bavaria and Saxony do not have a legal entitlement. A course must be explicitly recognized by the respective state.

Yes. GoAcademy! Language School Düsseldorf is a recognized educational provider. Our courses meet the legal requirements of the Employee Further Education Act (AWbG) and are typically certified for 30 or 40 teaching units per week.
Generally, yes, as it is your legal right. An employer may only reject the application for compelling operational reasons—for example, if too many colleagues are already on leave at that time or if there is an operational emergency.
- Important: Any rejection must be made in writing and include a justification.
- Fiction of Consent: In many cases, if the employer does not issue a timely rejection, the educational leave is considered approved. Nevertheless, we always recommend early and open communication with your supervisor.
We offer courses for all language levels—from beginners (A1) to advanced (C1). Before the course begins, we conduct a placement test to ensure you learn in a group that matches your current knowledge.
Yes. Upon successful completion of your course, you will receive an official certificate of attendance. This serves as personal proof of your further education and must also be submitted to your employer as evidence of proper participation.
The course fees, as well as any travel or material costs, are borne by you as the employee. The employer makes their contribution by continuing to pay your wages (paid leave from work).
Generally, the full entitlement to educational leave only arises after six months of employment. However, it is worth discussing this with your employer early on to coordinate planning for the period after your probation ends.
If you fall ill during the course, the same rules apply as with regular vacation: with a medical certificate of incapacity for work, the days do not expire and can be used for educational leave at a later date.
In NRW, you must notify your employer in writing at least 6 weeks before the course begins. However, we recommend a lead time of 8 to 9 weeks to ensure planning security for both you and your team.
